Indy Racing League driver Jay Howard won the third annual All Stars Karting Classic race Thursday night, part of the Performance Racing Industry trade show activities in Orlando. Howard, the 2006 Indy Lights champion and a karter since age seven in his home country of England, was the fast qualifier and the heat winner on the quarter-mile track laid out in the parking lot of the Orange County Convention Center.

In fact, there it is now! ("Hello? Hello? Yes, I am in fact quite happy with my current long-distance plan. Listen, I'm trying to keep this line open…")
Anyway, back to saving the American auto industry, and by extension, America. It will not be easy. The $15 billion the U.S. Congress is in the process of approving is a start, but we have much work to do.

GAINESVILLE, Florida -- Apples and oranges? No, not close. More like we're comparing apples and peach pits. But make no mistake: When we weigh the quarter-mile times for some legitimate supercars against some slightly less expensive vehicles, you will have no choice but to stop your whining: It does not take a lot of money to go fast.
Case in point: A 2008 Porsche 911 GT2 covers the quarter-mile in 11.7 seconds, and 121 mph. It cost $198,875.
Another German vehicle covered the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds, at 124 mph. It cost less than $2,000.
Duh-huh?

Thanksgiving typically means two things in Orlando: Turkey and new cars and trucks.

The Central Florida International Auto Show begins Wednesday at the Orange County Convention Center and runs through Sunday.

The Indy Racing Experience, which allows you to ride or drive an open-cockpit IndyCar, is expanding its operations to the Walt Disney World Speedway beginning November 17. The Indy Racing Experience will share the track with the Richard Petty Driving Experience that currently operates at the track, offering a similar experience, but in a NASCAR-type stock car.

The Indy Racing Experience has been operating at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on an irregular schedule, but will make its permanent home at Disney World’s one-mile asphalt oval track.

The title of the book is You Are What You Drive, but if you drive any of the vehicles author Jay Lamm writes about, you won’t like it.

Subtitled “What Your Car Says About You,” Lamm can be downright mean.

Funny, but mean.
